Sigma Alpha

Lambda Chapter • University of California, Davis

Membership Candidates

The purpose of the Sigma Alpha Membership Candidate Education Program is to allow the active chapter a chance to get to know prospective new members (MCs) and to carefully evaluate their contribution to the active chapter. MCs are given the opportunity to explore the advantages and commitment required to be a successful member, as well as to get to know active members. It is also a period to allow MCs to gain further knowledge of the chapter, the goals of Sigma Alpha and to make a final commitment to be a part of the sorority. The Membership Candidate Education Program is a time of decision by both the active chapter and the prospective new members.

Sigma Alpha prides itself on a strict no-hazing policy, as this time should be focused on learning about the sisters and the chapter. The MC period is akin to having a smaller version of the active sorority, in which MCs plan and host all of the events an active chapter would (like professional events, social events, and fundraising events). MCs also participate in many activities that encourage sisterly bonding within the class and with the actives to prepare for a smooth transition into the active chapter.
